Cattle vaccine rule eased

FARMERS in the Lothians won't be forced to vaccinate their cattle against a serious infection in 2010.

Following the compulsory immunisation against bluetongue in 2009, participation in next year's jabs will be voluntary.

Health Protection Scotland said while the disease wasn't transmissible to humans, an outbreak would have serious financial repercussions for the agricultural industry.
