Cat from Sheffield, dog from Stoke found in Edinburgh

Misty was found in the stairwell of a block of flats.

A dog with a microchip registered to an address in Stoke-on-Trent was abandoned outside a supermarket, while a cat with a Sheffield chip was discovered in the stairwell of an Edinburgh flat.

The Scottish SPCA is now appealing for information about both cases to reunite the lost animals with their owners.

In the first case, the Staffordshire bull terrier called Tyson was found tied up next to Sainsbury’s in Straiton on Monday.

Tyson was found tied up outside a supermarket.

The white and tan dog is now being cared for at the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Balerno.

Senior Inspector John Toule said: “It is thought Tyson was tied up outside the store for most of the day.

“Unfortunately the contact numbers registered to his chip are unrecognised.

“It is possible that the owners have moved from Stoke-on-Trent to the Midlothian area and the details on the chip have not been updated.

On Wednesday, the SSPCA was called when a male cat, named Misty, was discovered at a block of flats at Merchiston Crescent.

Animal Rescue Officer Steph Grant said: “Misty was absolutely petrified and frozen to the spot.

“He hadn’t moved from the stairwell for two days and we think he may be a house cat who isn’t used to the outside world.

“Misty is microchipped to an address in Sheffield but unfortunately both the numbers registered are no longer in use.

“His owner may have moved to Edinburgh without updating the details on the chip.”
