Castle wall unearthed

A HISTORIC wall which once separated the Castle from the rest of Edinburgh has been uncovered during work on new stands for the Tattoo.

A trench dug for the new stands revealed the remains of a wall around one metre wide, which is thought to be part of the boundary wall dating back to the 1600s.

Historic Scotland's Peter Yeoman said: "There are early plans which we think show the newly-discovered boundary wall beside the old approach to the Castle."
