Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson of Police Scotland said: “We have received a report about a break-in to the Post Office in Duffus and our enquiries are at an early stage. The break-in is believed to have happened between 2am and 6.15am on Wednesday and damage was caused to the front of the building and an ATM was stolen.”

He continued: “There is no suggestion to say who was involved at this stage and whether it is linked to previous incidents in the North east, however we will be keeping an open mind.”

Det Insp Stevenson added: “Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or who may have information is urged to contact Police Scotland to assist us with our enquiries.

“I want to appeal to members of the public to contact police should they come across any items that look like they have been stolen from a shop and dumped in another area. I also want to encourage shopkeepers to consider the security in their shops and if CCTV is installed, to make sure it is all in working order. Members of the public are also urged to report any suspicious activity they see during the evenings and night time to police.”
