Case study: ‘I was told Orkney was not UK’

Linda Halford, from South Ronaldsay, said she tried to order a soap dish measuring three and a half inches in diameter, but was told by an online firm it would not deliver to Orkney as it was “outside the UK”.

Another company selling bird food advertised free delivery for orders of £75 and over.

However, when she tried to order £100 of goods she was asked to pay £14.99 delivery because of her location.

“Needless to say I did not buy the bird food. It becomes irritating after a while. I use online shopping quite often and I don’t see why we are penalised.

“These firms are losing out as I just shop around until I get what I want with free or reasonable delivery.”
