Cartel assassins critically wound Mexican mayor-elect

CARTEL assassins have shot and critically wounded a mayor-elect in Mexico, the second attack on a public official in less than 24 hours.

Ricardo Solis, the new mayor of Gran Morelos in the northern state of Chihuahua, was shot in the head and chest.

On Thursday, the mayor of a town outside Monterrey was also killed. The drugs cartel offensive in Mexico has claimed more than 6,000 lives in two years, including those of four mayors in the last six months.
