Carer trusted with PIN stole from woman

A CHEATING carer defrauded an elderly woman out of nearly £2000 after being entrusted with her bank card and PIN, a court heard.

Lisa Hutton, 25, was caught after the woman's nephew spotted that money had been spent at McDonald's while his aunt was in hospital.

Hutton, of Whitburn, West Lothian, had sentence deferred at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday to repay the cash.

She pleaded guilty to obtaining goods and services worth 1163.41 by fraud.

She also admitted stealing 810 by using the card and PIN in various cashline machines in Whitburn and Blackburn.

Claire Martin, prosecuting, said Hutton was responsible for a total of 67 transactions using the victim's debit card.

Raymond McMenamin, defending, said the accused had "succumbed to temptation" and used the card for her own purposes.

"She struggles to explain why she did it and expresses regret and remorse for what she's done."

He said Hutton, who now worked in a bakery had saved up more than 1400 towards compensating the woman.
