Care work's future safe after grant

THE future of a charity for young carers has been secured after it received a major cash boost from Children In Need.

North West Carers Centre in Muirhouse Crescent received 78,907 from the BBC charity, which will secure its young carers' initiative for the next three years.

Development worker Marcia McGuinness said the grant would enable staff to extend their work, offering activities and support for young carers.

She said: "This is the best possible news for the Young Carers' Project. We have done a lot of fundraising ourselves, but this grant is great as, with three years' funding, it takes a lot of that pressure off and allows us to concentrate on getting out into schools and the wider community."
