Care service tendering report to be published

A FULL report on the botched re-tendering of care services for some of the city's most vulnerable people is set to be published.

City council chief executive Tom Aitchison was asked to prepare a full "lessons learned" report following the collapse of the tender process, when an independent report found the process "not as meticulous" as it should have been.

He today confirmed that progress is being made on the report and it is to be presented to councillors on 8 June.

Ella Simpson, chief executive of the Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council, has been appointed as an adviser and "critical friend" of a review board set up to draw up the report.

Meanwhile, a decision on revised "direct payments" is to be deferred and will instead form part of a new commissioning strategy later this year, with direct payments continuing at the existing rate.
