Care project re-tendering to go ahead

PLANS to re-tender a series of care projects in Edinburgh have been given the green light.

The council's existing arrangements with independent and voluntary sector organisations that provide care at home are set to end in October 2011.

Twenty-five bidders who passed a first round of tests now go forward for more a detailed assessment.

As part of the process, the council has consulted service users and their carers on how well the existing services are working.

Councillor Paul Edie, the city's health leader, said: "The care at home services are a real success story for Edinburgh, helping our older residents and people with physical disabilities live with dignity. Their needs were paramount in the contracts which are coming to an end. That will continue to be the case, but it's essential that we listen to their feedback."
