Care homes win health praise

Residential care homes in Scotland have been praised for encouraging children to live healthy lifestyles.

An inspection of Scotland's 256 services found improvements in support for healthcare and promoting physical health.

The Care Commission said 96 per cent were "performing well" with physical health and its report found all services had registered children with a GP, dentist or other specialist. They also made sure appointments were kept.

Sports such as football and swimming were promoted in most areas, with some children saying they had been encouraged to take up a new activity.
