Caravan owners collect £5k charity cash

This summer’s disappointing weather failed to dampen the spirits of holiday home owners, who collected almost £5000 for charity.

The generous caravanning community at Thurston Manor, near Dunbar, has raised in excess of £90,000 for charitable causes in recent years through open days, cake sales, sponsored events and amateur dramatic performances.

This year they have distributed cash to Teenage Cancer Trust, Help for Heroes and Erskine, the leading care organisation for ex-Service men and women in Scotland.

James O’Hagan from Livingston, caravan owner and member of Thurston Manor’s fundraising committee, said: “We have all had it hard financially in the last few years, none more so than the charities.

“We have a great community of friendly owners and we are glad that we are able to help such worthy causes.”
