Car owner 'blew fuse' and smashed up his ex's motor

A PROUD car owner "blew a fuse" when he suspected his former girlfriend of damaging his vehicle, a court heard.

John McCready wreaked his revenge by wrecking former partner Chloe Christie's car with a sledgehammer.

He smashed all the windows and headlights then put huge dents in the bonnet and doors.

After he was finished, the 700 'V' registered motor had to be towed away and scrapped, Livingston Sheriff Court heard.

But Ms Christie had the last laugh when her insurance company sent her a cheque for the damage.

McCready, 22, of Whitburn, appeared for sentence yesterday. He earlier pleaded guilty to willfully and recklessly damaging the vehicle in nearby Stoneyburn on August 30 last year.

His plea of not guilty to assaulting Ms Christie was accepted. Sentencing McCready to 120 hours of community service, Sheriff Donald Muirhead told him: "This was particularly serious vandalism."
