Car ferry taken out of service

A CAR ferry being used after a road was shut by landslides – forcing motorists to take a 130-mile diversion – has now been taken out of service after running aground.

The Glenachulish’s engine cut out and it struck rocks near the slipway at North Strome in Wester Ross. All cars and passengers were able to disembark after the crew managed to free the vessel.

The vessel was introduced on Loch Carron as an embergency measure after the A890 was shut in December due to landslides.

From spring to summer it operates out of Glenelg and crosses the Kylerhea straits between the mainland and Skye.
