Capital's lottery winners off to Tynecastle to collect £2m

The couple were set to collect the National Lottery prize at the Gorgie ground as part of their celebrations. The pair, who have not yet been named, were expected to reveal how they planned to spend their new-found fortune during the event.

The cheque presentation was due to take place at the Hearts FC executive suite at the stadium after it was booked by lottery organisers Camelot.

The winning numbers on Saturday's Lotto draw were 34, 37, 39, 41, 42, 47 with the bonus number 45. The couple are the latest lottery winners from the Lothians, which has seen a number of jackpot success stories over the years.

In July 2005, a hairdresser and her council worker husband from Midlothian were celebrating after scooping 8.5m. Sandra Fraser and husband Alex, who lived in Kennington Terrace, Loanhead, were the toast of their village after hitting the jackpot. Seven workers at an Edinburgh whisky plant were left toasting their success after scooping almost 2.4m on the National Lottery in May 2004.

The syndicate members, who worked at Chivas Brothers bottling plant at Newbridge, were dubbed the Lucky 7s and collected 341,893 each. Six of the winners were from West Lothian and the other was from North Lanarkshire.

The winning ticket was bought from Tesco in Linlithgow and the winners planned to spend their cash on cars, including a Jaguar, new homes and at least one holiday to Las Vegas.

In March 2004, a 17-year-old West Lothian girl collected a cheque for 1.5m after becoming one of Britain's youngest Lotto winners.

Lisa Dougan, from Torphichen, picked up 1,568,212. The teenager had been taking a sport and leisure course at West Lothian College in Livingston.

Hibs fanatic Catherine Peacock discovered she had won 1.4m on the lottery in the middle of Coronation Street in October 2003.

The print worker told how she screamed with delight when she discovered she had hit the jackpot after switching channels during the adverts to check her numbers.

The 58-year-old grandmother of seven, also from Loanhead, quit her job and planned to buy a dream home with her newfound wealth.

She received a cheque for 1,406,411 at Easter Road stadium after buying her winning ticket from the Sainsbury's supermarket in Loanhead.

John Roberts, from West Pilton, scooped a National Lottery jackpot win of more than 3m after taking a joint share of a 6.1m payout in November 1998.
