Capital yacht sets sail for San Francisco

THE Capital’s entry in the Clipper Round the World yacht race has set off from the Chinese port of Qingdao in the ninth race of the event.

Edinburgh Inspiring Capital is undertaking the 6000-mile Pacific crossing to San Francisco. The race start was initially postponed due to poor visibility, but the fleet got under way yesterday morning.

Edinburgh skipper Gordon Reid said: “After enjoying a truly awesome welcome ceremony, including the skipper’s gift of a regal gold cape with a groovy red velvet lining and the fabulous hospitality of the people of Qingdao, it was time once more to step up to the mark. After a fantastic leaving ceremony, we were waved off to a chorus of 100 drummers and fireworks as we left the marina.

“To all of our friends and family back home, thank you for your continued support and remember, just like we do on the ‘Purple Beastie’, keep the faith.”
