Capital pubs retain place in top guide

TWO of the Capital's pubs have retained their place in the Michelin Guide to Eating Out in Pubs 2011.

The King's Wark and The Ship on the Shore are the only pubs in the Lothians, and among a handful in Scotland, to be listed on the prestigious list - a spin-off from the famous Michelin Red Guide.

They were joined this year by Aberdeenshire's The Glenkindie Arms, the only newcomer north of the Border.

Heston Blumenthal's Hinds Head pub in Berkshire took the top spot as Michelin Pub of the Year 2011.

Editor Derek Bulmer said: "Our guide shows that pubs are not dying, they are merely changing. The traditional drinking pub has undoubtedly been suffering, but those that are making efforts with their food are flourishing. Even some of the breweries have begun recruiting talented chefs. If there is one message, it is adapt and thrive."
