Capital invite for Suu Kyi

BURMESE pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi is being invited to visit Edinburgh this summer.

The opposition leader, who spent years under house arrest before winning a parliamentary seat in by-elections earlier this month, was granted the freedom of the city of Edinburgh in 2005 in recognition of her campaign to bring an end to the military junta and restore democracy in Burma.

Now Edinburgh North and Leith Labour MP Mark Lazarowicz has written, inviting her to visit Edinburgh if she comes to the UK in June as hoped.
