Capital draws pilgrims from across globe

Cardinal Keith O’Brien met Roisin McKnight and her daughter Nuala-Maria at the annual pilgrimage in honour of the Venerable Margaret Sinclair at St Patrick’s Church in the Cowgate.

The yearly event is part of ongoing moves to canonise the former member of St Patrick’s.

Devotion to Margaret has grown over the decades since her death in 1925, with Pope John Paul VI declaring in 1965 that she practised her Christian virtues to a heroic degree, before giving her the title The Venerable Margaret Sinclair. People from all over the world now come to St Patrick’s to pray at her shrine, where she was interred in 2003.
