Capital can prosper in world arena, says commerce chief

The new boss of Edinburgh’s biggest business group has insisted that there are still plenty of opportunities for the Capital to prosper.

David Birrell, chief executive of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, has highlighted financial services, renewable energy and life sciences opportunities that can help the city’s economy continue to grow.

Writing in the chamber’s official magazine, the former Unilever executive and qualified accountant said: “Edinburgh’s economy has proved remarkably resilient to challenges, largely as a result of its competence and leadership in a variety of sectors – from tourism to life sciences, renewables to creative industries, professional services to public sector. Moreover, our quality of life, enriched by our flagship festivals, positions us as a global city in which to live, work, invest.

“There are opportunities aplenty for us to pursue.”
