Candlelit vigil to remember Mikaeel Kular

Residents in the Edinburgh community where he lived will gather for a minute’s silence near the family’s former home in Ferry Gait Crescent, Muirhouse.
Hundreds joined search parties to look for Mikaeel after he was reported missing by his mother Rosdeep Adekoya last January.

Hide AdThe 34-year-old was jailed for 11 years in August after pleading guilty to the culpable homicide of her son, who died two days after being beaten repeatedly.


She put Mikaeel’s body in a suitcase and hid it 25 miles away in Kirkcaldy, Fife, before reporting him missing to police.

Those affected by the tragedy are invited to Linear Park in Muirhouse at 6pm for a candlelight vigil before a minute’s silence at 6.15pm.

Hide AdRobert Pearson, chairman of Tenants and Residents in Muirhouse, is one of those organising the event.
He said: “The residents feel it’s very important to hold this event. It’s only been 12 months since the tragic death of Mikaeel Kular and it’s still very raw in the community.
“Many people got involved and worked very closely with police and other agencies at the time. The community pulled together and that is exactly what we will do again this evening.”
