Cancer survivor raises £4000 for the cause

A CANCER survivor has raised £4000 on the six-month anniversary of her being given the all-clear.

Louise Moscrop, an occupational therapist from Gogarburn, was diagnosed with a rare type of cervical cancer after she went for a routine screening last year.

She organised a charity race night, auction and raffle at Slateford Bowling Club to raise money for Cancer Research UK and spoke out to encourage other women to get tested.

Louise, 28, said: “If I hadn’t gone for that smear test, I dread to think what could have happened to me. It was very scary at the time, but luckily I had lots of support from my amazing family, friends and from my fantastic boyfriend, Brian.

“As soon as I got the all-clear, I started thinking of ways to give something back. I also wanted to do what I could to raise awareness of how important it is that people take up the opportunity for any kind of routine cancer screening.”

Louise raised £600 by taking part in the Race for Life event at Holyrood Park last month.

She is now training for the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow in September and plans to raise more for the charity.
