Cancer-stricken mum writes album as lasting legacy

A TERMINALLY-ILL mother has recorded an album celebrating life and love due to be released later this month.

Radio presenter Angie Townsend, 48, from Wallyford, was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer in 2012.

The mother-of-two sought help immediately after finding a lump but the cancer had already spread, meaning she could no longer be cured.

A year earlier she had reformed her old rock band Seeing Red with a view to gigging again, but she put everything on hold after the shocking news.

After coming to terms with the illness, however, she decided to write an album as part of her legacy for her teenage daughters and husband Chris, and so Butterfly was born.

Angie said: “Butterfly is a collection of songs written to celebrate life, love and things I’ve wanted to say, and I hope there will be at least one song in there that either touches your heart or inspires you.

“For my family and friends, this album is a thank you for the love and support you’ve given; a little way of saying you’re special and always will be.”

Butterfly features a mix of styles, ranging from the rockier tracks to dance and folk numbers influenced by the likes of Bryan Adams, Fleetwood Mac, and Ella Fitzgerald.

The album, released on August 25, will initially only be available on CD format via online sales with free downloads also available.

Steve Brown, her songwriting partner and guitarist from Seeing Red, said: “Angie is the strongest person I have ever known. I can’t begin to imagine what she’s already come through – and she’s still fighting.

“I would like to thank her for this amazing experience. These are the most beautiful, honest, from-the-soul songs I have ever heard and had the pleasure to work on.”

Angie is currently receiving her fourth round of chemotherapy.
