Cancer centre tribute from Nicola Sturgeon

HEALTH Secretary Nicola Sturgeon met cancer patients yesterday as she toured a specialist hospital centre.

She spent time chatting to patients receiving treatment for cancer as she visited the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow.

Ms Sturgeon also spent time talking to staff at the centre's radiotherapy unit and Macmillan Day Chemotherapy Unit.

The Beatson achieved strong results in the most recent Better Together survey, which supports delivery of NHS Scotland's Quality Strategy.

Ms Sturgeon said: "The Beatson delivers world class care for patients with cancer and it's a facility which we should be very proud of.

"The staff who work here make an unbelievable difference to people and to their life chances. The centre delivers the best care in terms of clinical drugs trials and state-of-the-art radiotherapy treatment.

"Having centres like this with the equipment and the staff which this one has is a really important part of our overall fight against cancer."
