Canalside park set for path upgrade

A SERIES of improvements are planned for a public park next to the Union Canal.

A three-metre-wide path for cyclists and pedestrians is to link three entrances to Harrison Park at Watson Crescent, the Union Canal and West Bryson Road.

New steps are also to be introduced at the Watson Crescent entrance, as well as a link to the existing steps up to the Union Canal and the creation of a link to the towpath.

A line of lime or horse chestnut trees are also to be planted along part of the north/south axis. The plans have been submitted by the city council and councillors on the development management committee are due to decide whether to give approval at a meeting tomorrow. Planning officials have recommended that consent is granted as it will lead to "physical improvements to the public realm".
