Canal group raises funds

A CANAL society that operates community boats on the Union Canal is to donate funds to a cancer charity in memory of one of its founder members.

David Wright - who died from cancer last month aged 55 - was one of the founder members of the Buchan Society, which became the Bridge 19-40 Canal Society.

The Canal Society will donate all the proceeds from its canal trips at Port Buchan in Broxburn on September 5 to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mr Wright had a vision of the canal reopening after it was closed for around 40 years. His dream came true in May 2000.
