Campaigners target Nick Clegg

DISABLED campaigners and trade unionists were expected to be among demonstrators protesting outside the Scottish Liberal Democrat conference this afternoon as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg arrived to deliver a keynote speech.

The Lib Dem leader has become a target for campaigners objecting to spending cuts, job losses and controversial welfare reforms being imposed by the UK coalition government.

The party is still licking its wounds after its humiliating sixth place in Thursday's Barnsley Central by-election.

Scottish Secretary Michael Moore was due to use his speech to the conference today to argue that the Lib Dems are "the party that understands business".
