Campaigners send letter to plea for park

CAMPAIGNERS trying to save Cairntows Park have sent an open letter to the city's councillors to appeal for help in saving the green space.

The park, on Niddrie Mains Road in Craigmillar, could be sold off to a property developer and transformed into 145 offices and flats.

On behalf of 200 campaigners, including local councillors Maureen Child and Ewan Aitken, campaign head Robert Bell, wrote: "The local community are dismayed by the proposals and have come together to publicly oppose any development on Cairntows Park.

"As you may be aware the consultation meeting (last week] was packed and out of the entire meeting not one person would raise their hand in favour of the proposal."

The city council's planning department is today considering the pre-application put forward by local developer PARC.
