Campaigners get knife crime points across to parents

PARENTS and carers across the Capital are set to receive support and advice as part of a series of events from a campaign fighting knife crime.

The initiative aims to engage with parents who may be concerned about their children.

The Scottish Government has teamed up with ParentLine Scotland, which will have staff and call-takers on hand at the events. They will be 
offering parents advice on how to talk to their children to prevent them from becoming involved in carrying knives.

The No Knives, Better Lives events will take place at Morrisons, Waterfront Broadway, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am to 5pm.

Confidential one-on-one sessions will also be held at the North Edinburgh local offices, West Pilton Gardens, on Thursday from 10am to 6pm. Councillor Cammy Day, community safety leader for the city council, said: “We hope many parents from Edinburgh will take advantage of these events between No Knives, 
Better Lives and ParentLine Scotland.

“It’s a great opportunity for parents to seek advice on the best ways of communicating with their children and 
discourage them from becoming involved in any dangerous activities which could jeopardise their safety or get them into trouble.”

He added: “The council takes the issue of knife crime very seriously and supports the No Knives, Better Lives initiative, which seeks to improve the lives of those living in our community and make them safer.”
