Campaigners fight cutbacks at Chambers

A CAMPAIGN against council cuts and privatisation has been launched at Edinburgh City Chambers.

Members of the Right To Work campaign lobbied councillors outside this week's full council meeting, before giving a deputation in the main council chamber.

The group is supported by the Edinburgh trade union council, the Unite trade union and a number of campaign groups, community activists and service users.

Members of the campaign say that council leader Jenny Dawe is "carrying out the dirty work of the Tories" by cutting city services.

The campaign was also supported by Paul French, the former city council bin man who was given the sack for speaking out against his employers.

During their deputation, members of the campaign said that any attempt to privatise services would be resisted and said that "the fight has just started".
