Campaigner to stand for council vote

AN active campaigner against school closures is set to stand in next year's council elections.

Karen Keil has announced she will stand as the Labour candidate for the Drumbrae/Gyle ward, which is currently represented by Lib Dems Jenny Dawe and Robert Aldridge and SNP's Colin Keir.

Mrs Keil, who was a strong campaigner against the closure of Drumbrae Primary School last year, said: "With 86 children due to start Clermiston primary one, 69 children in East Craigs primary one and a completely full Fox Covert primary one, let's see if Mrs Dawe and Mr Aldridge will defend their decision to close Drumbrae with the electorate."

Mrs Keil was part of the Save Drumbrae campaign group during the council's last round of school closures, which in the end saw Drumbrae, Fort, Royston and Burdiehouse primaries all close.
