Campaign to crack down on muggings

POLICE have released posters and leaflets with the message, “Don’t Flash Your Cash”, to promote a new crackdown on muggings in the Capital.

The advertising features advice on how to avoid becoming the victim of street robberies, which have risen in the last year.

As reported in the News yesterday, Operation Arable will also see dedicated patrols carried out today, Friday and Saturday – the days which usually see a spike in muggings.

The safety tips include being “especially alert when using cash machines”, avoiding walking home alone after a night out, walking in well-lit areas, and keeping keys, mobiles and purses or wallets separately.

The police also advise residents to avoid flashing expensive phones or music players and to “let go” if anyone tries to take your belongings as “safety is more important”.
