Cameras plan motors ahead

TRANSPORT bosses are set to press ahead with controversial plans to use cameras to monitor bus lanes.

The city council is borrowing an initial 300,000 for the scheme, which will cost around 120,000 to run and will see motorists fined for driving in the Greenways.

Transport Scotland is to make a decision soon on whether to decriminalise bus lane enforcement, taking the issue out of the hands of the police and allowing councils to fine drivers.

Although a decision is still to be made, the council has begun a tendering process to find a provider of the cameras.
