Cambodia: Stampede caused by swaying bridge

A STAMPEDE that killed 456 people in Cambodia on Monday during a festival to mark the end of the monsoon season was sparked by the swaying of a bridge, investigators said yesterday.

The motion alarmed the huge crowds, causing a panic. Up to two million people were in the capital, Phnom Penh, for the festival.
