Callum's on the right frequency

Radio broadcasting student Callum Gallacher, of Telford College, has been nominated for the Hospital Broadcasting Association Best Newcomer Awards.

Callum is the only Scottish broadcaster to be shortlisted for the national award for a show he broadcasts called The Big Munch.

It goes out on Radio Grapevine at St John's Hospital, Livingston, West Lothian, every Tuesday from 5pm.

As well as undertaking broadcasting experience at the hospital, Callum also broadcasts on the college's own radio station, Radio WoW, as part of his course, which aims to teach students digital production techniques, as well as the skills of interviewing, music programming, digital operations, newsroom operations and radio commercials production.

He said: "When the entry was submitted by our programme director at the station, I never expected to get this far, so to be nominated against nine other broadcasters from all over the UK is really amazing and I'm delighted to be the only Scot nominated in my category."
