Call to prevent poor health

MORE cash should be channelled towards preventing bad health rather than curing it, a recommendation has stated.

Instead of reacting to problems such as alcoholism, priority should go to stopping them developing. The report by the Scottish Parliament's finance committee said the move would save money in the long run.

Convener Andrew Welsh said: "Every 1 invested in programmes to provide support between birth and three can save between 3 and 14 later."
