Call to ensure carers avoid poverty trap

MAKING sure family carers don't become the poor generation of the future is the subject of a conference this week. The "Does Europe Care?" event will call on expert speakers.

Policies from various countries will be examined in a bid to ensure carers don't fall into poverty. The event is at the Roxburghe Hotel from today until Wednesday.

Sebastian Fischer of the Coalition of Carers in Scotland said: "In most countries carers still lack the support they need."
