Call to ditch nuclear plants

GREEN campaigners have used the 25-year anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster to call for an end to new nuclear power plants in Scotland.

WWF Scotland said there was now "very little chance" of any new reactors being built, with most of the main political parties committed to renewable energy.

Dr Richard Dixon, director of WWF Scotland, said: "Twenty-five years on from Chernobyl, nuclear power's record of accidents, secrecy and hidden subsidies is again in the spotlight."
