Call for more carer support

A HUGE rise in the number of unpaid carers in the Lothians proves the increasing need for support, a charity has said.

Voice of Carers Across Lothian said there were now nearly 100,000 people in the area who had a loved one to care for, compared to 70,000 a decade ago.

Board convener Patrick Layden QC said: “Carers require more support with the emotional and practical impacts of caring.

“Many carers increasingly struggle financially. They need more support to maximise benefits and income.”
