Call for city cyclists to help epic bid

A CYCLIST preparing for a round-the-world journey to raise money for Unicef is to encourage Capital residents to get on their bike and help out.

Sean Newall will set off on the 20,000 mile ride on July 23, and along the way he is aiming to get 10,500 people from around the world to join him for a five mile cycle.

And he is appealing for local cyclists to join him for five miles when he sets off from the National Galleries at 12 noon on July 24, the second day of his epic journey.

Sean, 27, a leisure attendant at the Greenfields football centre in Shettleston, hopes to cycle to almost 60 countries which will be represented at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

He said: "The world tour will be without doubt the hardest expedition I've done. I plan to be in Delhi on October 14 - the day when the Games will be officially handed over to Glasgow."

He hopes to raise 50,000 in sponsorship for Unicef to help fund sports activities for deprived youngsters.

Anyone who wants to cycle with Sean or make a donation is asked to visit www.thecommonwealthchallenge.com
