Call for action after killer Luke Mitchell’s lie test video went online

PRISON bosses are to review procedures after a video showing killer Luke Mitchell passing a lie detector test was posted on the internet.

The footage of Mitchell denying killing his girlfriend Jodi Jones in Easthouses, Midlothian, in 2003 was uploaded to YouTube after permission was given for filming the polygraph test.

First Minister Alex Salmond quoted from a report by prisons inspector Hugh Monro which defended the Scottish Prison Service’s decision after being questioned at the Scottish Parliament yesterday.

But he added: “Everyone will deeply regret the hurt and upset that irresponsible use of this footage will have inflicted on the family and friends of Jodi Jones.”

Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald called for Brigadier Monro’s report to be published in full. He said: “It is difficult to understand why this film, with or without conditions, has been released into the public domain.

“The Scottish Government and its agencies have been caught out as being behind the times and we need to ensure that conditions are in place which cover how the internet is used by prisoners and their legal teams.”
