Call for faster wage roll-out

LABOUR has called for faster action to roll out the living wage across Scotland after a report estimated half a million people are earning less than the £7.20 per hour calculated as necessary for an acceptable standard of living.

The report by the Scottish Parliament’s local government committee said circumstances could present difficulties for councils seeking to introduce it.

Committee convener, SNP MSP Joe FitzPatrick said: “The living wage can help tackle poverty, but it is not a panacea.”
