Cairngorms National Park Authority appoints new Chief Executive

Cairngorms National Park Authority has appointed Grant Moir as new Chief Executive.

Grant Moir is currently the Director of Conservation and Visitor Experience within the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority. He will take up his new role in March 2013.

Jane Hope, who has been in the post since the Park’s inception in 2003, announced in June this year her intention to retire early in 2013.

Mr Moir, originally from Perthshire, had previously been in the Rural Affairs Department of the Scottish Executive.

He said: “The opportunity to lead the Cairngorms National Park Authority and to work in such a fantastic area is a great privilege and I am looking forward to getting started.

“The Cairngorms National Park has so much to offer and I am keen to begin working with residents, businesses, land managers, non-governmental organisations, and all of our public sector partners in the management of this very special place.”

CNPA convenor Duncan Bryden said: “I am very pleased that Grant is to become our new Chief Executive.

“He has great energy and enthusiasm for the Cairngorms National Park and the skills to lead our excellent and committed staff.

“His experience will stand us in good stead as we and our partners jointly ensure the Cairngorms are a first class, ‘must visit’ National Park and a fine place for people and wildlife.

“In our first 10 years Jane Hope has built sound foundations and an international reputation for the CNPA. Grant has an excellent platform to work from. “

The Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Paul Wheelhouse, said: “I very much welcome the appointment of Grant Moir as Chief Executive of CNPA and look forward to working with him as the Park Authority and its many partners take forward the Cairngorms Park Partnership Plan for the benefit of all those who visit, live and work there, while protecting what is a highly valued environment for future generations.”
