Bus's onboard entertainment is live feed of your luggage

IT is not the most obvious form of onboard entertainment.

But passengers on Edinburgh's new airport buses will be treated to a live TV feed – of their luggage.

It is one of the features of the 14 new Airlink buses which are being rolled out later this month after a 3 million investment by Lothian Buses.

The new vehicles feature a larger area for luggage, which is covered by the security camera.

Passengers have long complained that they did not want to sit upstairs and leave their bags unattended, so the TV screen will allow them to keep a close eye on their belongings.

The new vehicles, which can seat 66 passengers, also feature electrical sockets, so travellers can charge up mobiles and lap-tops en route.

And there is access to free on-board WiFi, allowing travellers to go online and check their e-mails during the journey.

Every bus has an electronic ramp for wheelchair access, a PA system allowing the driver to communicate with passengers, and a CCTV system featuring 13 camera units to cover almost every area of the bus.

The low-emission buses also have environmentally-conscious "e-leather" seat covers, made of recycled leather and said to be hard-wearing and scuff- resistant.

Ian Craig, managing director of Lothian Buses, said: "The Airlink vehicles have been carefully designed and specified to make the whole journey experience for passengers travelling to and from the airport as safe, comfortable and stress-free as possible.

"We are incredibly proud to introduce these vehicles to passengers, and this definitely marks a strong start to the new decade for Lothian Buses."

The buses were launched yesterday as it was announced that Edinburgh is the top UK city outside of London for public transport use to get to the airport.

More than 28 per cent of all passengers travelling to the airport now use public transport, meaning Edinburgh Airport has exceeded its 2011 target to have 26 per cent of passengers using public transport.

Lothian Buses said the existing Airlink fleet would now be overhauled by engineers and used on other routes around the city.
