Bus trapped by burst main

FIFTEEN passengers were rescued from a bus trapped on a coastal road following a burst water main.

Eight women and seven men were guided to safety after the bus broke down in a large pool of water on the B1348 at Prestonpans at 2.50pm yesterday.

It is thought the bus became mired in the water after a mains pipe burst following icy conditions and the sub-zero temperatures in East Lothian and across much of the country for the last fortnight.

Police called on the assistance of Musselburgh's firefighters, who rescued the trapped passengers within an hour.

The whole operation was concluded at around 3.50pm.
