Bus en route to put stop to air pollution

A ROUTEMASTER bus modified to be environmentally friendly will tour the Capital as part of an international conference on air pollution.

Earlier this month it emerged that the UK looks set to be hit with millions of pounds worth of EU fines for failing to hit pollution targets in cities including Edinburgh.

Delegates at the European ECO Stars conference in Edinburgh this week will take part in a fact-finding tour using the modified London bus.

The city council said it was already looking at a scheme offering free energy efficiency assessments to fleet operators.

Councillor Gordon Mackenzie, transport leader, added: "We are looking for fleet operators to come forward with imaginative solutions to emission reductions and this event is part of that. We want to improve air quality so everyone can benefit from cleaner air."
