Burns pans city for lack of policy over public loo cuts

CITY leaders today came under fire for agreeing to cut the amount of money spent on the city's public toilets without knowing how to carry out the cut.

The Liberal Democrat/SNP budget passed in February for the current financial year included a 400,000 reduction to the amount spent on public toilets.

Earlier this week, environment leader Robert Aldridge said in the Evening News that "nothing has been decided" about how the cut will be achieved.

Councillor Andrew Burns, leader of the Labour group on the council, said: "That is just so disingenuous, it's breathtaking. I'll tell you what's been decided; the removal of over 400,000 from the budget allocation for public conveniences.

"It is policy being made up - literally - after the budget decision has already been taken. It's no way to run a capital city and just underlines for me that the current administration just haven't got a grip of the policy-agenda for this local authority.

"Indeed, I don't believe they even have a policy agenda: they simply follow the lead of officers."
