Bullying a problem for obese people

A FIFTH of obese Lothians residents have suffered some form of bullying as a result of their weight, a report has found.

Seven Co-op pharmacies in the Capital asked people receiving medication for their weight about their experiences. The majority of those had sought medical advice as they were upset at their appearance and the discrimination they faced as a result.

The chemists said obesity prescriptions for fat-fighting drugs had increased by 18 per cent in recent years.

A spokesman said: "It is concerning that people start to worry about their weight at such a young age and that people are being bullied because of their weight."
