Building society stays strong in economic storm

A BUILDING society based in the Capital has continued to grow, despite the tough economic climate.

The Scottish Building Society increased the amount it lent to customers by 20 million in the year to the end of January, to 59m.

The amount of its customers that got into difficulty meeting payments in time was only one third of the average for other lenders.

Gerry Kay, the firm's chief executive, said: "We focus on what we do best – providing quality mortgage lending."
