Builders take on swim challenge for Beatson Cancer Charity

Co-workers from a building charity swam the equivalent width of Loch Lomond as part of an outdoor charity swim challenge to raise funds for Beatson Cancer Charity.

Led by open-water competitive swimmer Mark Deans, 20, nine employees from Mactaggart & Mickel Group worked as part of a relay team to cover over 421 pool-lengths and hit the Loch Lomond target.

The team took to the cold waters of the outdoor pool at David Lloyd Heath Club in Anniesland, with club members cheering them on.

Commenting on the team’s success, Mactaggart & Mickel Group chief executive Ed Monaghan said: “I am thrilled with all the team for putting in such an amazing effort – it wasn’t in the murky waters of Loch Lomond itself, but for a bunch of people who aren’t long distance swimmers, we did a fantastic job.

Donations are still to be tallied to form the final fundraising total. Speaking about the fundraising efforts, David Welch, chief executive of Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “We are honoured to be the chosen charity for Mactaggart & Mickel Group’s charity swim challenge.

“This is an incredibly generous donation from the company and I’d like to send my sincere thanks to all of the team for their incredible achievement. Their generosity will have a direct impact on thousands of cancer patients and their families, both now and in the future, through the dedicated work of the charity.”
